Create the Band

Budding rock stars can live out their rock ‘n’ roll fantasies by playing either a single instrument or any combination of instruments, in addition to the full band experience. When rocking as part of a band, up to four players can jam together in quickplay or as they progress through a career. Both band and single-player careers feature non-linear progression giving artists the option to change difficulty and instruments with a variety of different gigs available at any time.

GREAT GAME!! (2008-11-12)
I think this is a great game! Granted like everything else it has it's flaws but nothing else out there stands up to it. The flaws include: switching from the slide bar to the regular buttons is hard to do. Also the guitar that comes with the pack has the straps on at weird angles. Other than that I think this game is the best yet. You can use the equipment to play with your Rock Band games. You can make your own songs and upload to XBOX live. You also can save other peoples songs to your set list. Not to mention you can customize everything! Highly recommended!!

A must get (2008-11-06)
This game is a must buy if your a GH or RB fan. I thinks this is my favorite music game ever. The only thing Rock Band has on it is that you can import songs from the other Rock Band game. However saying this the track list is awesome on world tour. You can create custom characters. You can also customize everything about you guy from the guitar to the drums to the mic.

I bought the Guitar Hero World Tour guitar kit at launch. Within a day of owning it, the downstrum on my guitar began missing notes. I contacted Red Octane about this problem, and they expect me to pay to mail it back to them, then wait 2-3 weeks for them to evaluate it. In reading around, it seems quality control on the guitar and drums is horrible. On this grounds alone, I urge caution in buying any World Tour hardware.

The guitar differentiates itself from other plastic axes on the market by including a slide strip. It is a neat innovation at first. However, the way it is integrated into songs, many times I find it impossible to switch from the slide strip to the buttons without missing notes. The strip is also a bit clumbsy to use. Given the quality problems with the guitar and the gimmicky nature of the strip, I think the Rock Band 2 guitar is a better/safer option in the near future.

The game itself is a big improvement over previous GH iterations. 85 songs that are all from the original artists. Support for building a setlist. The one-on-one challenges are much less frustrating than GH3's. I like how they did the vocal tracks -- you can pick between scrolling (RB style) or static (karaoke style) lyrics. A lot of artists are digitally included (Billy Corgan, Ozzy, etc.). Fairly good character customization. Negatives -- the Quickplay menu is a disaster, the music studio is a waste as implemented, and they didn't figure out how to allow importing of song/DL content from GH3 (RB2 did this with RB).

I think the game only package is a worthwhile purchase if you already own a controller. I would stay away from the hardware altogether in favor of Rock Band 2's controllers.

Hot for Teacher describes my childhood (2008-10-31)
Yes there was nothing more of a turn on to me than my Literature teacher, a young 'Demi Moore' lookalike, who would accidentally get chalk on the more curvaceous parts of her slim body. What I would have done to be able to wipe that chalk off of her! Van Halen you boys rock for making a song about her. Alright back to the review.

I want to clarify that this is the review for the 'X-box guitar/game bundle'; the other reviewers must be confused on which version they are rating. I also have a unique perspective because I love to jump online and play with a few buddies whether it be Guitar Hero or Gears of War; the experience is better with some buddies.

So here's the skinny to pros and cons for Guitar Hero World Tour and I can't help comparing this to the other Rock Band games because of the obvious similarities.

Pros:

1. If your a Tool fan, this is almost a must purchase. Tool actually helped Neversoft create different sets that change with the progression of each of the 3 songs.

2. The set list is pretty satisfactory for an old 80's and grunge fan despite a few songs that make me want to dunk my head in toilet but I'll get to those in the cons. For the most part the set-list is good.

3. The new guitar is the best in the market for any rhythm game. Love the new effects and I actually use the touch pad unlike the cobwebbed solo buttons on my Rock-Band guitar. It is fun to use the touch-pad to strum along and on the solo areas of the new songs.

4. The new music creation could be improved but for the most part it really adds the game. Someone could spend countless hours creating songs or listening/playing other players creations.

5. I like GH-WT quick play option better. Now you can earn dollars during quick play and once someone completes the Expert Career mode on whichever instrument, you want to get to your favorite songs as quick as possible. This quick play also simplifies the song sorting by either song name or band name. I seems a little easier to navigate than Rock-bands but this maybe because there are a lot less songs available than on my Rock Band 2 profile.

6. Van Halen, The Doors, Ted Nugent, Jimi Hendrix, and Filter rock like there's no tomorrow. Squeeze some Avenged Sevenfold in there and you make me a little happier?


Cons:

1. Rock Band 2 schools Guitar Hero as far as Online Play and Down loadable content. RB2's online play is still unmatched. Also the downloads from RB1 are all playable(along with RB1's setlist). Get with the picture Neversoft and do the same. I feel stupid for paying 500 MS points for that Foo Fighter pack now that never gets used. From now on Harmonix gets my download business.

2. Willi Nelson!? Man I know Billy Idols fans were shocked and confused when he came out with a Christmas Album, but I thought I would never see the day that Willie would show his twangy sound in a Guitar Hero. That's a low blow and anyone on my staff recommending Willie would be walking the plank ASAP.

3. Also whats up with these piece of crap foreign songs? You can take those foreign lyrics and burn them. At least include an option to remove these pathetic attempts at rock. There got to be a thousand bands aching to get on Guitar Hero don't go to France. I'd make an exception for Ramstein but "L'Via L'Viaquez" sucks.


Alright enough whining. Cool game despite a few flaws. I think its still worth the purchase. Rock Hard and Rock often.

I'm no fan boy I will give you nothing but the facts (2008-10-31)
Here is my take on this game. Coming from a person that is a fan boy or either of the companies.

I was excited to buy the band in the box. That is what I'm going to call it, because that is what it is. Well any ways I had forgotten that it was even do out. i was drunk playing some Gears,a nd noticed that a few people on my FL already had it. I then remembered that it was do out Midnight that day. So I fall asleep, sober up, and head out to get it. I pick it up at the local walmart. I got the last copier of the game for the 360, you should have seen the look of disappointment on a few of the kids faces. To see me walk out with the last one, to bad chumps.

Keep in mind you are paying 189 bucks for this so you better be sure it is what you want.



I get home open the box with excitement. I start unpacking everything carefully. My two stupid dogs have to see what is going on so you know how it is. They start sniffing and pawing at ever thing. Keep in mind these two are real dogs not the rat like dogs that you see chicks carry in there purses. One is a Pit/lab mix and he is right around 115 pounds the other is a Shepard, and is around 85 pounds. So the pair of knuckle heads make it almost impossible to get everything out and set up. They would grab ah old of the box, and try to pull it off the couch, or just plain knock ever thing over.

So after I get everything out, and the drum set up. I look over the new instruments. I first see that the bass pedal itself just looks cheap, and feels that way to. I like having the extra pad, and the cymbal make you feel like you are playing real drums. My hats off to them for setting it up the way they did. Now the rest of the drums felt OK, but they looked cheap like no thought was put into making them. They are kinda of clumsy looking, and bulky. I would have thought that they since the had all that time would have found a way to make them more like a real drum kit, and not just another toy.

It took me about 20 min. to get use to the extra pad, and the placement of the notes on the chart. Having those cymbals makes it a blast to play. The game play it self felt a bit on the slow side even on expert drums. The charts seem to go by so slow. The notes where also a bit on the small side, and having a older bog screen TV didn't make it that much easier to see them.

I didn't get much of a chance to fool around with the guitar, and since I still at vocals doubt that I will even tough the Mic.

The Guitar felt good in hand. I felt like the LP but a bit bigger. It was real easy to play, I think that i will be using this guitar for all music games from now on. The finger slide section of the Guitar is kind of hard to get use to at first. I still really don't have the hang of it. Not from lack of trying of course. I do how over like to use it ti finger tap some of the notes, it adds a extra element of fun to the game. Again the charts didn't feel like the charts that we are use to getting with the other Guitar Hero's. Seems that the dumbed it down a bit to make it more of a fun family game. I really have no problem with that, because I'm really not a hardcore player like others are.

Any ways on to graphics, and what not. I really wish they would get away from the cartoon like characters. I still fell like I'm playing a game made for a 10 year old. The animations are not that much better then the other ones put out. i wish that they would put some more time, and thought into this stuff. Yes I'm going to compare this game to RB2, lets face it they made this game to compete with it. To me RB2 feels like a much cleaner game. Watching your friends play while you sit back makes you feel like you are at a real concert. I didn't get that with GHWT. I felt like I was watching cartoons. Before you accuse me of being a fan boy of RB, don't forget I went out, and paid 189 bucks for GHWT. There where tons of great features in GHWT, being able to make your own songs. The custom character stuff was great, but for me this is stuff that I will never use. I'm not into all that stuff I just want a game that I can sit down, and enjoy.

So to sum it up, for me it was really not worth the buy. I feel that even thought there are so many strong points, that there are enough negatives to make me not want to play it that much. I think if they do make another Band based game it would be better if they tried to make things more realistic, and less cartoon like. That is my opinion on this game please take it as that.
